Onboarding & contracts

The written statement every employee is entitled to from day one.

Updated June 2026 · general information, not legal advice

Written statement of particulars

  • Employees and workers are entitled to a written statement of the main terms of employment on or before their first day (Employment Rights Act 1996).
  • It must cover the essentials: the parties, job, start date, pay, hours, holiday, place of work, and notice. Tenavo generates a starting statement from the onboarding details you enter.

Before day one

  • Complete the right-to-work check before employment begins.
  • Collect personal and emergency-contact details, set up payroll with the NI number, and enrol eligible staff into a workplace pension.
